How Complex Utilities Need to Change for the 21st Century

In this paper, Landis+Gyr provides a description of an energy & capacity optimization (EC&O) platform–a “system of systems”–which utilities will manage. From the EC&O system operations center, the utility will optimize all assets (regardless of ownership) and optimize capital deployment for new assets. The platform will also allow the utility to engage stakeholders in planning, and communicating opportunities to customers. Landis+Gyr also highlights the need for cybersecurity, with an increase in stakeholder transactions and information-sharing.
