2013 was another in a string of perpetually high-growth years for solar deployment. More than 4.2 gigawatts (GW) of new solar capacity was installed at more than 140,000 locations in the U.S., bringing total capacity to 10.5 GW at 450,000 sites.

Utility-scale solar surpasses distributed solar

2013 was the first year utility-scale solar surpassed the distributed generation market. High year-on-year growth is expected to continue, and solar seems to have passed a utility legitimacy threshold as costs have become more competitive, solar customers have increased, and its overall market size has reached a critical level of public acceptance.
