Recap on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT 2016) Conference Featuring NIST Staff, September 7-9, 2016

With 400 attendees from around the world, IEEE’s ISGT conference—held last week in Minneapolis, Minnesota—provided a forum for stakeholders to share recent accomplishments, planned developments, and long-term visions.

Three plenary panels highlighted technology visions, regulatory issues, and utility executives’ perspectives. The program also featured more than 20 panels on selected topics, from synchro phasors to microgrid controllers and from distributed energy resources to cybersecurity. In addition, more than 125 technical papers and posters were presented.

SGIP was well represented at the conference, with a number of current and former leaders in attendance, including Sharon Allan, SGIP CEO and President. During a panel on Transactive Energy, several members of SGIP’s Transactive Energy Coordination Group (TECG) discussed ongoing activities, including TECG’s white paper (available soon) and NIST’s Transactive Energy Challenge
