What It’s Like to Work at SEPA

At SEPA, culture isn’t something we declare — it’s something we live. We are building a Culture for Everyone: a workplace where people from all backgrounds can thrive, grow, and contribute to a mission that matters.

We believe great work happens in environments rooted in trust, clarity, and connection. That’s why we’ve embedded inclusive practices into every part of our employee experience — from how we hire and develop talent, to how we lead, collaborate, and evolve.

Whether you’re early in your career or leading a team, you’ll find opportunities at SEPA to learn, be recognized, and make a lasting impact on the transition to a clean energy future. We are intentional about cultivating a workplace where everyone can do meaningful work and feel a genuine sense of belonging while doing it.

As a fully remote organization, we have a highly engaged team distributed across 25+ states. At SEPA, flexibility doesn’t come at the expense of connection. We prioritize human-centered practices that support well-being, encourage creativity, and make space for both professional and personal growth.

We also come together in person each year for staff retreats that foster connection, collaboration, and strategic alignment, strengthening our bonds and renewing our collective commitment to our mission.

Our Commitment to Inclusion and Belonging

SEPA is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging — not as a standalone initiative, but as a core part of our culture strategy. We believe diverse teams drive better outcomes, and we are intentional about designing systems that are fair, clear, and inclusive by design.

We know that inclusion is a practice, not a policy — and we’re always learning. Through employee feedback, clear goal-setting, and shared leadership accountability, we’re building a workplace where everyone has a voice that matters.

Strategic Partnerships

To support this journey, SEPA is proud to partner with Paradigm, a leading workplace culture consultancy. Paradigm has helped thousands of organizations — from startups to global companies — embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into lasting, high-performance culture strategies. Through this partnership, we’ve gained deeper insight into how our culture functions, how we compare to our peers, and what it will take to build a workplace where all employees can thrive.

With Paradigm’s guidance, we’ve launched a long-term culture strategy grounded in three pillars: growing leadership at all levels, championing inclusion across our work, and strengthening talent systems so all employees have a clear path to succeed. We’ve also introduced a cross-functional People & Culture Council, developed learning pathways for staff and managers, and implemented new ways to elevate employee voice and feedback.

SEPA is a great place to work thanks to our wonderful team. When I first joined the organization, I immediately noticed that each and every SEPA employee was friendly, welcoming, and inclusive. My role allows me the chance to work with many of the teams across the organization which I really enjoy. This has been a great opportunity to learn from subject matter experts with different backgrounds and work on a wide variety of projects. I’m so glad I landed at SEPA.

I had little knowledge of the energy industry when I started working at an electric utility company. I was also introduced to SEPA through our organization’s membership. I gained experience from my position in renewable energy at the utility, but it was fueled by the support and resources from SEPA. It catapulted me into an arena of peers where I could have meaningful actionable contributions to accelerate the utility’s carbon-free goals. I never knew that chapter of my career would grow into something as great as working as a SEPA team member. Now, I proudly work with all types of utility companies and technology providers across the country. Gives me great joy to help connect them to SEPA’s membership benefits while working toward a carbon-free future for the next generation.

SEPA is a great place to work. Not only does it have a solid mission and offer opportunities to work constructively with stakeholders across the energy industry, but it also provides excellent benefits and a top-notch work culture. What could be better than decarbonizing the energy industry with a swarm of fun, enjoyable people?

Working at SEPA has been such a great experience! I have learned the importance of promoting a carbon-free energy sector, and I even feel like I can be a small part of that change. Our SEPA team is fun, energetic, and inclusive, and as SEPA continues to grow, I see it being a great place to grow my career and make friends along the way.
