Aaron Smallwood

Senior Director, Technical Services, SEPA

Aaron Smallwood

Aaron has been in Information Technology for 20 years and in the utility industry for the last 15 years. As Director of IT Operations at the Electric Reliability of Council of Texas (ERCOT), Aaron was responsible for the multi-data center IT operations of ERCOT’s real-time grid and market systems, deregulated retail market systems, Enterprise Data Warehouse, systems integration, and market settlement systems. In other roles at ERCOT he led business/technology alignment, IT strategy development, program financial management for the Texas Nodal Market Implementation, IT stakeholder relationship management, and the IT divisional project office.

Prior to ERCOT, Aaron was responsible for managing the relationship between IT and utility business units at Aquila, Inc., working with utility and IT leaders to ensure that IT services were aligned with business objectives and that IT was positioned to support their needs.

Adam Wasserman

Director, Membership & Marketing

Adam Wasserman

Adam Wasserman joined SEPA in 2014 and is responsible for building market awareness and development of SEPA’s products and services. He has spent his career helping a wide variety of organizations advance their marketing message and strategy.

Prior to SEPA, Adam worked with non-profits, technology companies, film and TV productions, advertising firms and a Political Action Committee. A native of Washington DC, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona.

Anita Bonner

Associate, Finance & Operations

Anita Bonner

Anita Bonner Joined SEPA in January, 2015 as a Finance and Operations Associate to ensure the daily operations at SEPA, run smoothly.

With more than 15 years of experience in the Administrative arena, prior experience includes being the Administrative Assistant for one of the most recognize Volunteer Programs in the nation – the “President’s Volunteer Service Awards” and Anita was also a recipient of the award – with more than 4000 hours of volunteer service.

Anita also held positions with the Meltech Corporation, US Department of Labor, State Farm Insurance, US Courts, National Urban League and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Anita has also volunteered her time at Martha’s Table and DC Central Kitchen. Anita truly enjoys helping others – wherever and whenever she can.

Beth Eagle

Director, Human Resources & Operations

Beth Eagle

Beth Eagle joined SEPA in September of 2013 with a background in association operations, human resources, project management and fundraising. Previously, she worked for various non-profit organizations in the operations department throughout Washington, DC.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland and her Master of Arts from George Washington University. She lives in Maryland, with her husband, son and 2 dogs.

Brad Benton

Manager, Membership

Brad Benton

Brad Benton is the Membership Manager for the Smart Electric Power Alliance. He joined SEPA in 2015 as Manager of Executive Affairs and moved to the membership team in late 2016. Prior to joining SEPA, Brad worked at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and for Rep. Emanuel Cleaver from Missouri on Capitol Hill. Brad has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. In his spare time, Brad is an avid traveler and photographer. He lives with his wife in Arlington.

Brenda Chew

Research Analyst

Brenda Chew

Brenda joined SEPA in 2017. She manages SEPA’s Annual Utility Survey and Snapshot Series, and supports a range of research efforts on the integration of distributed energy resources. Prior to SEPA, Brenda worked as a consultant at ICF, focusing on distributed energy resources, Utility of the Future and grid modernization efforts.

She holds a master’s degree in sustainable development from the University of St. Andrews, and a bachelor’s degree in economics and environmental studies from Emory University.

Charisse Raysor

Senior Coordinator, Membership

Charisse Raysor

Charisse joined SEPA in 2013. As Senior Membership Coordinator, she leads all administrative components of membership . She’s accountable for developing and implementing procedures to ensure accuracy of membership recoreds including member engagement, trends, and overall integrity. Prior to SEPA, Charisse served as Membership & Sponsorship Account Manager for the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA). She also held the position of Membership Specialist for the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).

Charisse brings more than 15 years of membership services experience to SEPA.

Chris Schroeder

Senior Director, Advisory Services

Chris Schroeder

Chris Schroeder joined SEPA in July of 2017 as a Senior Director of Advisory Services. In this role, he is responsible for helping SEPA members define a variety of programs, strategies, and solutions for distributed energy resources supporting the advancement of clean energy and grid modernization.

Chris has over 20 years of consulting experience in the electric, gas, and renewable energy industries. Prior to joining SEPA, Chris served as a Senior Vice President at Nexant, Inc. where he led their Energy Delivery and Management division providing over 100 pilot and full-scale utility distributed energy resource programs, including energy efficiency, demand response, and renewable energy offerings. Chris has also provided strategic consulting services for state regulatory proceedings, stakeholder facilitation, utility tariff review and energy storage initiatives for utilities and groups throughout North America.

Chris has a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics from Willamette University and a Master of Science in Building Systems Engineering from the University of Colorado.

Christine Stearn

Senior Manager, 51st State Initiative

Christine Stearn

Christine joined SEPA in 2015. She has advised utilities on strategic and operational plans for programs, products and services that will drive integration of clean energy resources into utility resource portfolios and business operations. Currently, she manages SEPA’s 51st State Initiative (http://sepa51.org), a collaborative platform that is an alternative to the contentious debates surrounding market and rate reform occurring in many jurisdictions. The initiative creates an ongoing, safe forum for experts and industry leaders to shape the evolution of the utility sector.

Prior to SEPA, Christine has had a variety of rewarding work experiences ranging from startups to working at a global sustainability think tank, to building an analytic program for a $3 billion operating organization. Christine presents on energy, sustainability, technology, climate and risk topics. Christine earned both a MBA and a M.Sc. from Columbia University and her BS from Babson College where she majored in Management Information Systems.

Christine has a love of travel, a taste for pancakes, an aptitude for technology, an itch to run and a desire to connect with others.

Corinne St. Laurent

Associate, Communications

Corinne St. Laurent

A native New Hampshirite longing for change, Corinne set out for new ground two days after Christmas 2015. A natural stability seeker, the decision to leave her three-year Marketing Representative position at the largest media company north of Boston seemed uncharacteristic. Nonetheless, she arrived in D.C. with three months of funds and without a job.

Within 45 days she would join SEPA as the organization’s first Communications Associate having discovered that the road to stability can appear messy and under perpetual construction. This lesson encourages Corinne to manage her duties at SEPA remembering that while established knowledge matters, it is the challenges that allow for growth and goal achievement.

Whether leading SEPA’s two award programs, writing the public newsletter, or speaking from behind the @SEPAPower handle, she brings a passion for creating real and lasting societal change embodied by SEPA and her peers. Corinne graduated from Clarkson University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. She enjoys world history, traveling and trying new cuisines.

Cynthia Hunt Jaehne

Senior Manager, Programs

Cynthia Hunt Jaehne

Cynthia Hunt Jaehne is Senior Manager of Programs at SEPA.

Cynthia’s project management experience coupled with the knowledge of the trends, barriers and approaches relating to successful and sustainable deployment and utilization of solar and distributed energy resources and technologies informs her role developing and executing programs for SEPA.

In addition, Cynthia has more than 10 years of experience managing utility-scale solar studies and initiatives for a number of clients both in the U.S. and internationally. She is familiar with the various solar technologies and the deployment large-scale solar projects.

Prior to joining SEPA, Cynthia was a Project Manager for Morse Associates in Washington, DC. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina.

Daisy Chung

Manager, Research

Daisy Chung

Daisy Chung joined SEPA’s research team in 2014 to lead specialized research ranging from nationwide policy to utility customer offerings. She focuses on utility deployment at the distribution level, with specialty in asset management and operations & maintenance. She also collaborates with industry stakeholders such as electric service providers and integrators.

Daisy comes with seven years of thin‐films engineering, process implementation, as well as technical knowledge transfer experience from Samsung. Through her global experience, she specialized in system start‐ups, qualification, standardization, and failure and root-cause analysis through Six Sigma data analytics and system monitoring strategies.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, with minors in Business Foundation and Chinese Language from the University of Texas; she is also an honor’s graduate of the Master in International Public Affairs program, specializing in Energy Analysis and Policy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Longhorns and badgers play nicely together in her household.

Dan Chwastyk

Manager, Utility Strategy

Dan Chwastyk

Dan Chwastyk joined SEPA in 2015, where he works as Utility Strategy Manager on the Advisory Services team. Dan helps utilities develop and execute customer facing renewable energy offerings and leads SEPA’s research into community solar programs across the country.

Dan formerly worked for Navigant where he worked primarily on energy efficiency, smart grid and demand response issues for government, utility and private sector clients. He holds his bachelor’s in structural engineering from Penn State University and his master’s of business administration from Wake Forest University.

Dave Hardin

Chief Architect, SEPA

Dave Hardin

Dave Hardin has extensive experience designing, integrating and managing enterprise information and automation in the energy and manufacturing sectors. He has held senior technical and management positions at EnerNOC and Schneider/Invensys. Dave has been active in Smart Grid initiatives since 2006 including serving on the OpenADR Alliance Board of Directors, SGIP Board of Directors, co-chair of the SGIP Architecture Committee, chair of the SGIP Industrial-to-Grid Domain Expert Working Group and vice chair of the SGIP Transactive Energy Coordination Group. Dave is also serving on the OPC Foundation Technical Advisory Council and is member emeritus of the GridWise Architecture Council (GWAC), a Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Institute Project Management Professional (PMP), and an IEEE Certified Professional Software Engineering Master (PSEM).

Erika Myers

Director, Research

Erika Myers

Erika Myers joined SEPA in July 2015. In her role, Erika directs research team activities, oversees research collaborations with key partners, and manages the development of content. She specializes in renewable energy and electric vehicle infrastructure and staffs SEPA’s Electric Vehicle Working Group. She has authored and co-authored numerous reports, briefs, articles, and blogs while at SEPA and regularly speaks at trade events around the country.

Prior to joining SEPA, Erika spent nearly four years as a consultant with ICF International and five years with the South Carolina Energy Office with a focus on renewable energy and alternative transportation fuel policy and regulatory planning and development. She also had a short stint as a supervisor at a solar installation firm in the southeast, before deciding she much preferred being behind a desk and not on top of a roof.

Erika has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Clemson University and a master’s degree in earth and environmental resources from the University of South Carolina.

Erika Tomatore

Associate, Programs & Events

Erika Tomatore

Erika Tomatore moved to Washington, D.C. from Southern California, and joined SEPA in 2016 as a Program and Events Associate, handling the operation of webinars for the Communications & Education team. Prior to joining SEPA, Erika worked as a Program Manager/Coordinator in Santa Barbara, California for Relevé Unlimited.

Erika earned her Master’s in International Studies with an emphasis on Southeast Asia from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. During her time at the Josef Korbel School, she wrote a Substantial Research Paper analyzing the Diaoyu/Senkaku Island dispute between China and Japan through the lens of international law and international theory, as well as several research papers focusing on Thailand and Indonesia. She also received her Bachelors in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. In her spare time, Erika enjoys traveling, hiking, and yoga.

Frank Grace graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a major in public relations and a minor in political science. Prior to joining SEPA, Frank interned on Capitol Hill for Congressman Connolly’s office. He also interned for Senator Whitehouse in 2007 and for Morgan Stanley in 2006.

Gabrielle Puccio

Director of Public Engagement

Gabrielle Puccio

Gabrielle is responsible for all SGIP internal and external communications including those related to member, public and media relations. She is a communications executive with demonstrated success in developing and executing marketing strategy, corporate and product rebranding and identity plans, sales enablement campaigns, as well as member, media and public relations for domestic and energy global markets.

Gabrielle’s most recent industry experience includes: Communications Change Manager at Cisco Systems for the global Advanced Service Operations teams; Senior IT Business Analyst at Duke Energy (Raleigh office) providing project and resource management to IT Grid Modernization staff; Senior Marketing Manager at Infosys supporting the global Smart Grid, Energy and Sustainability markets; and Director, Corporate Communications for Elster (Electricity, Gas, Water) supporting market channels including North America, Canada, Latin America, Australia, MENA, and parts of Europe.

Harry Cutler

Harry Cutler

Harry joined SEPA as an Administrative Associate in 2017. In this role, he supports the Executive Team with scheduling meetings, managing calendars, arranging travel, and completing other projects as needed.

Prior to joining SEPA, Harry graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Global Studies. Throughout his undergraduate career, he interned in DC on two separate occasions, in both the public and private sector, and studied Arabic language in Meknes, Morocco. In his free time, Harry enjoys traveling to new cities, cooking with friends, and staying active in organized sports leagues.

Ian Motley

Ian Motley

Ian joined SEPA in 2015 as Marketing Manager, overseeing the development and execution of SEPA’s marketing and creative efforts. He comes to SEPA with over seven years of association and marketing experience. Ian received a Master of Science in International Marketing Management from Boston University and his bachelor’s degree in government and international relations from George Mason University.

He is a video game, cycling, Instagram and travel enthusiast as well as the owner of one very spunky cat named Monster.

Janine Fiasconaro

Janine Fiasconaro

Janine joined SEPA in June 2017 after graduating from American University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Public Relations and Strategic Communication and a minor in marketing. She has had several internships at various non profits during her time at AU which led her to develop an interest in marketing as a career. Most recently she interned at Sierra Club where she was an Online Organizing intern and enjoyed working on promoting the Peoples Climate March. She lives in Northwest DC but loves taking excursions to nearby parks to hike and camp, especially Shenandoah National Park.

Jared Leader

Jared Leader

Jared joined SEPA in June 2017, where he joins SEPA’s Advisory Services team of experts in utility business and distributive energy to provide strategic and operational planning that drives integration of distributed energy resources into utility resource portfolios.

Prior to joining SEPA, Jared spent three years as a consultant at Arcadis US. Jared was responsible for the design, implementation, and management of several environmental programs for both municipal and commercial clients in the energy and water sectors.

Jared holds a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Virginia, where he conducted research on algae-based bio-fuels and focused in sustainable practice. He is currently earning his MS in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC

Jennifer Szaro

Senior Director, Programs

Jennifer Szaro

Jennifer Szaro joined SEPA in 2015 as Senior Director of Programs and currently manages SEPA’s extensive portfolio of educational offerings, including joint venture events such as Solar Power International (SPI) and targeted events like the Utility Solar Conference and annual Fact Finding Missions.

Prior to this, she spent nearly nine years as Renewable Energy Manager for the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) leading their solar energy, corporate sustainability and electric vehicle programs. She also conducted applied photovoltaic systems research for eight years as Senior Energy Analyst for the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), a research institute of the University of Central Florida (UCF). Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science Degrees in Environmental Science and Chemistry from Florida International University in 1997 and holds an MBA from UCF.

She has served on the board of directors for several nonprofit organizations, including: SEPA, the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), the Florida Renewable Energy Association (FREA), Project Get Ready Central Florida and Drive Electric Florida. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and currently sits on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Sciences and the board of the Electric Vehicle Transportation Center.

Jenny Senff

Manager, Programs

Jenny Senff

Jenny joined SEPA in November 2015 as Program Manager. In this role, Jenny manages the annual Grid Evolution Summit – A National Town Meeting, along with various working groups, webinars, and workshops. Prior to joining SEPA, she spent five years as the Manager, Programs and Outreach, for the Association for Demand Response & Smart Grid (which joined forces with SEPA in the fall of 2015).

Jenny has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science form Wake Forest University and a Master of Arts in Government from Johns Hopkins University. Although her days of competitive softball, kickball, flag football, bowling and bocce are over, she now enjoys cheering on her Demon Deacons, the NY Mets and the NY Giants. Jenny lives with her family in NE DC.
