Demand Response A New Way to Change Society’s Energy Consumption Through incentives, connected homes and programs that raise awareness, customers and utilities are working together to reduce the amount of electricity that needs to be produced during peak times. Demand response and smart grids allow consumers to be active participants in how and when electricity is produced. With all the attention that technologies like the connected home receive, it’s easy to overlook that demand response and smart grid applications are changing the relationship utilities have with their customers. Demand response plays a critical role in the smart transition to a clean energy ecosystem by addressing many of the strategy, planning and customer engagement challenges utilities deal with on a daily basis. This allows utilities to plan more effectively for the future by reducing the volatility in electricity production.
