The electric power sector is in the midst of a major transition with the rise of distributed energy resources (DERs). While utilities assess the true value of DER integration to grid reliability, some states are taking proactive approaches to advance DER integration. Two such states leading the country with their regulatory initiatives are New York and California. A report co-authored by SEPA and ScottMadden titled “51st State Perspectives – Distributed Energy Resources Integration” outlines the key similarities and differences between the two states’ path towards DER integration, and offers critical lessons for other states to adopt or adapt to facilitate their own market transformations. Join SEPA, ScottMadden, and representatives from two leading utilities in California and New York as we discuss where both states are experiencing overlap and divergence in their goals and execution of electricity system reform, with a particular focus on rate design.
