Learn about the key elements of the power grid and why our grids are rapidly evolving by attending the SEPA Electric Systems Basic Training. Whereas the Electric Systems Bootcamp was a deep dive into this topic, Basic Training will focus on shorter, higher-level content. This is a perfect option for industry professionals and regulatory staff who want a solid, basic understanding of this subject and how it fits into the energy landscape.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this two-hour training:

Hour 1:

  • The Four Basic Elements
    • Supply (and markets)
    • Transmission
    • Distribution
    • Demand (the “Grid Edge”)

Hour 2:

  • The evolution of the Bulk Power Grid
  • The growing role of Distributed Energy Resources
  • A view of the future of the electric system including critical challenges and new approaches

We will discuss critical planning and regulatory concerns, and key issues to be
resolved. We’ll focus on the challenges related to maintaining grid reliability as
more variable renewable resources are added, associated regulatory and market
rule changes, and the emergence of distributed customer-sited assets as a new
resource to be concerned about and integrate into the planning process.
