Catalog of Cyber-Physical Resiliency Best Practices

The integration of smart components, communication networks, and automation that enables a smarter grid poses new risks due to the interdependencies between the physical and cyber components of the electric grid.

In this catalog, you will find a collection of vetted tools, software, reports, and videos that exemplify cyber-physical resiliency techniques and design principles such as:

  • Adaptive response
  • Diversity and redundancy to minimize common mode failures
  •  Support agility and architect for adaptability
  • Reduce attack surfaces
  •  Graceful degradation

Each catalog entry has been vetted by experts from the Cybersecurity and Grid Architecture Working Groups and includes a summary of content, the resiliency attributes it addresses, and the grid domain to which it applies (eg. IT/OT, Distribution/Transmission Operations.)

You can download the Catalog of Cyber-Physical Resilience Best Practices here as a spreadsheet.

The Catalog of Cyber-Physical Resiliency Best Practices is a living document. Additional entries can be submitted for review by emailing Daisy Chung at [email protected].

Download the NISTR 7628 Cyber-Physical Addendum  – This product is first in a series of documents that comprise the Resiliency Supplement to NISTIR 7628r1, Cybersecurity Guidelines for the Smart Grid. This document maps the resiliency controls identified in NIST SP 800-160 Vol.2 to the Cybersecurity controls in NISTIR 7628r1. It provides supplementary resiliency control language to NISTIR 7628r1 where gaps were identified.
