New Resiliency Subgroup will Bolster Cybersecurity in Smart Grids

The new Resiliency Subgroup is working to strengthen and maintain secure, functioning, and resilient infrastructure in smart grids. As part of the Smart Grid Cybersecurity Committee (SGCC) and Smart Grid Architecture Committee (SGAC), the group meets bi-weekly to share presentations, review topics and make decisions to develop cyber resiliency. The next meeting is on September 29, 2016, and the group will collaborate face-to-face at the SGIP 2016 Grid Modernization Summit in November.

Resiliency is the ability to withstand or recover rapidly from disruptions, whether they be deliberate attacks, accidents, or naturally occurring threats or incidents. Goals of the Resiliency Subgroup include the following:

• Crafting guidance documentation (presentations and/or white papers)
• Helping the industry build in resiliency features like loose coupling and redundancy
• Identifying solutions for supply chain and scalability.
