SEPA CEO Sheri Givens Appoints Two New Members to RE+ Events Board

Hannah Bascom appointed to the RE+ education committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sheri Givens, president and CEO of the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA), announces the appointment of electric industry leaders Peter Muhoro and Julia Hamm to the RE+ Events Board of Directors. RE+ Events is jointly owned by SEPA and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

“We’re excited that Peter and Julia are bringing their industry experience and leadership to help guide the continued growth and success of RE+, North America’s largest energy trade show, as well as the RE+ Events portfolio of regional and international events,” shared Givens.

Peter Muhoro serves as chief strategy, technology and innovation officer at Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and the executive vice president and general manager of Rappahannock Electric Communications, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the cooperative. Peter is an accomplished electric utility executive with over 15 years of experience in the energy industry. He currently serves on the SEPA Board of Directors, holding positions on the Executive Committee and Finance and Audit Committee.

Julia Hamm served as president and CEO of the Smart Electric Power Alliance from 2004 to 2022 and is a founder of RE+ Events. For the past 25 years she has advised and collaborated with utilities, technology companies, and government agencies on business models, grid modernization, and clean energy policies, strategies, and programs. Currently, Julia serves on the boards of Voltera and the California Mobility Center and is an advisor at The Ad Hoc Group.

With these appointments, Matt Cheney from Catalyst Energy Partners and Ervan Hancock from Meta will leave the RE+ Events Board of Directors. Ervan and Matt were founding members of the RE+ Events Board of Directors since the organization’s launch in 2009. Both previously served multiple terms on the SEPA Board of Directors and were officers of the organization. Their leadership and guidance have contributed to making RE+ and the entire RE+ Events portfolio into the largest energy exhibition and conferences in North America.

“The RE+ Events team, in collaboration with SEPA and SEIA, facilitates unmatched opportunities for stakeholders to connect with clean energy experts and learn about the innovative technologies and solutions that can accelerate the transformation to a carbon-free electricity sector,” said Givens. “We are so grateful to Matt and Ervan for their many years of leadership and service to both SEPA and RE+ Events. I am delighted to welcome Julia and Peter’s counsel and insights as we continue to grow and improve RE+ Events both domestically and internationally.”

Seth Frader-Thompson, president of EnergyHub, will remain on the RE+ Events Board of Directors as a SEPA appointee. Seth cofounded EnergyHub, a leading grid-edge DERMS provider, in 2007. Seth also serves on the SEPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and chairs the Finance and Audit Committee.

“I’m pleased to welcome Julia and Peter to the RE+ Events Board,” said Frader-Thompson. “Their unique experiences – Julia as past SEPA CEO and founder of RE+ Events, Peter as a forward-thinking utility executive – will provide valuable perspective as we grow RE+. I’m looking forward to working together to cement RE+’s reputation as the premier conference for professionals innovating at the intersection of renewables and the grid.”

“I can’t thank Matt and Ervan enough for their dedicated leadership on the board since its inception,” said Stephen Miner, president & CEO of RE+ Events. “After coming off the largest RE+ in history, we’re eager for Peter and Julia’s expertise as we transition to a new phase of RE+ Events. 2023 is going to be an extremely exciting year, with inaugural domestic and international events on the horizon.”

Hannah Bascom, vice president of regulated business at SPAN and SEPA Board member, will join the RE+ Education Committee. The committee, comprised of nearly 40 volunteers from across the energy industry, helps guide the development of educational sessions at RE+ events ensuring that each is timely, forward thinking, and provides valuable insights.
