Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) Announces Live Demo of OpenFMB™ at DistribuTECH February 9, 2016 Wakefield, Mass., Feb. 9, 2016 –The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel’s (SGIP’s) Open Field Message Bus (OpenFMB™) live demonstration will have a large presence during DistribuTECH 2016, February 9-11 in Orlando. OpenFMB™ is part of SGIP’s EnergyIoT™ initiative to bring the Internet of Things (IoT) and advanced interoperability to the power grid. It is a distributed intelligence platform that can support peer-to-peer messaging, by using widely available, economical Internet technologies, to enable grid devices to speak to each other. The OpenFMB™ framework provides a specification for a power system’s field devices to leverage a non-proprietary and standards-based reference architecture, which consists of Internet protocol (IP) networking and IoT messaging protocols. “Our OpenFMB team has worked diligently over the past 12 months to successfully drive OpenFMB™ from concept to draft standard,” said Aaron Smallwood, SGIP Director of Technology Operations. “We are pleased to partner with Duke Energy and our OpenFMB™ technology partnersin driving and contributing to distributed resources and interoperability technology that accelerates the smart grid.” The OpenFMB™ live demonstrations will be hosted in the Duke Energy booth #1645 and by 25 of the OpenFMB™ technology partners throughout the DistribuTECH conference at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Visit the Duke Energy booth 1645 during one of the times below to see a demonstration of OpenFMB™ interoperability among COW-II partner devices. Tuesday, Feb. 9: 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10: Noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11: 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For additional information, go to http://www.duke-energy.com/coalition/. In addition to the OpenFMB™ demonstrations at the Duke Energy booth and throughout the exhibit hall, SGIP will co-exhibit with member EnerNex in booth #1836. During the conference, SGIP will host a meeting for the Grid Management Working Group, a new utility-focused consortium group, and participate in media and industry meetings; a number of SGIP members are on the program to present throughout the conference. SGIP President & CEO Sharon Allan will moderate at the Executive EL&P Summit and speak at several DistribuTECH sessions. “SGIP’s strong presence at this year’s DistribuTECH conference emphasizes the fact that our members are committed leaders in the acceleration of grid modernization,” said Allan. “We are pleased to have this high level of member collaboration and participation in this important conference.” About the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) is an industry consortium representing a cross section of the energy ecosystem focusing on accelerating grid modernization and the energy Internet of Things through policy, education, and promotion of interoperability and standards to empower customers and enable a sustainable energy future.
