Statement on the Department of Energy Staff Report on Electricity Markets and Reliability by Julia Hamm, President and CEO, Smart Electric Power Alliance August 24, 2017 “The Department of Energy grid study rightly identifies a number of changes in the electric power sector that expose imperfections in our current market designs. It also recognizes that resiliency may not be appropriately valued. However, we would encourage the DOE to consider a broader evaluation of other ways to fulfill customers’ and the economy’s fundamental needs: safe, reliable, resilient, affordable and clean power. “We have an exciting opportunity to evaluate how solar, energy storage, demand response and other distributed energy resources might be better deployed for reliability and resiliency. This would lower risk and improve overall system efficiency, in a way that may likely be superior to coal.” Media Contacts: K Kaufmann [email protected] 202-379-1637 Mike Kruger [email protected] 202-280-1556 Share Share on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on LinkedIn
