Community Solar Case Study

BARC Electric Cooperative, located in Bath, Alleghany and Rockbridge Counties, is a small customer-owned utility serving a population of about 35,000 people in central Virginia. BARC deployed a community solar facility to be the first community solar project in the Commonwealth.

What’s in the Case Study?

This case study is part of a series aimed at documenting how nonprofit utilities—both municipal and cooperative power providers—have overcome the financial challenges to solar deployment. This particular case study focused on how BARC Electric Cooperative effectively and creatively leveraged local opportunities for solar financing and stakeholder engagement.
