2025 Executive Fact-Finding Mission to Portugal

Prepare to visit a country celebrated for its ambitious climate goals and stunning scenery. Gain practical insights and form lasting relationships with your peers.

The mission is for utility executives and their board members, and sponsor/host representatives only. If you are interested in attending, please complete the brief form below.

Portugal was once one of the most energy-dependent countries in the EU, importing 80% of their energy in 2010. That changed rapidly with Portugal’s aggressive target to reach 80% clean energy electricity production in 2026 – four years earlier than originally planned.

How is it going so far?

  • Renewable energy supplied 78% of consumption in the first half of 2024, and
  • In 2020, Lisbon was named  “European Green Capital” after cutting CO2 emissions by 50%, and
  • Portugal is building one of the largest networks of EV charging points.

Participants will meet with key experts from government, private sector, education, and NGOs to learn about the challenges and opportunities in accelerating renewable energy adoption. Innovative technologies will be highlighted including wave energy, floating PV, and pumped hydroelectric for clean, smart production and storage.

U.S. energy executives will return from Portugal with new and practical ideas to share and implement at their own companies.

More details will be released as the program is developed. To view the 2024 agenda, see here.

Opportunities like this to explore other markets –  to see what is working and what is not – allow participants to reflect critically on their own biases and beliefs. These interactions also provide insights into the pace of change that our industry is experiencing. And they serve to highlight a truth – to succeed in the future, our businesses will need to adapt to that change.
