Benchmarking Utility Organizational Structures: How renewable energy is reshaping the utility hierarchy How will renewable energy impact utility organizational structures? As wind, solar and other renewables become an increasingly significant part of the generation supply in the U.S., decades-old utility organizational structures must evolve. This report documents how utilities are planning for and managing internal restructuring, including strategy, planning, and execution for each renewable energy technology. Renewable Energy Organizational Maturity Model SEPA and ScottMadden Inc. conducted research into the organizational designs of 14 participating electric utilities and found that utilities move through three stages of development as renewable energy deployment increases in their service territories. Based on these findings, the authors developed the Renewable Energy Organization Maturity Model, which takes into account the primary drivers and organizational dynamics of utility renewable energy engagement.
