Creating scalable, effective, managed charging programs requires significant forethought into customer engagement and understanding. Currently, there are gaps between managed charging program participation, future projections, and commission expectations. SEPA, Kaluza, WeaveGrid, AMPECO, and Uplight partnered to develop a set of evidence-based best practices that utilities, regulators, and companies can use to increase enrollment and participation and ultimately maximize the value of managed charging programs. Findings include:

  • Innovative technology and partnerships are necessary to reach the full potential level of customer participation (i.e., 70-80% enrollment and participation).
  • OEMs must work with utilities and technology providers to educate customers about managed charging programs at the point-of-sale.
  • Utilities should be proactively targeting drivers where there is a strong value proposition for managed charging.
