RESILIENCE

The importance of resilience will only increase as disruptions from extreme weather events become more common and more severe.

Resiliency is the necessary response to devastating climate changes.

Our energy system must be able to withstand flooding, heatwaves, hurricanes and wildfires. Clean energy technologies, such as grid- and customer-scale solar PV, energy storage, microgrids and vehicle-to-X, offer incredible solutions for improving grid and customer resilience.

Increasingly extreme and costly weather events can threaten the reliability and stability of the electric power system. Industry stakeholders are focused on resilience as they prepare for the reality of such weather events. Our electric power industry members are turning to clean energy technologies, such as grid- and customer-scale distributed generation and storage, as an alternative to traditional resilience solutions, such as grid hardening, undergrounding lines, and vegetation management.

SEPA is your first stop for incorporating resilience into your clean energy journey. We have developed a number of resilience publications and blogs to facilitate a resilient, carbon-free energy future. These educational materials address resilience planning, microgrid standards and controls, and resilience and microgrid policy. SEPA supports resilience through one-on-one project support, multi-client studies, DERs for resilience feasibility studies, program and regulatory support, stakeholder facilitation, customer engagement, benchmarking, and thought leadership.

Ongoing initiatives explore future threats to grid resilience, strategies for equitable and resilient energy planning at the federal, state, and utility service territory level, and opportunities for public-private partnerships. Case studies can support utilities, state energy offices, and other entities. SEPA’s Resilience ‘Matters’ hub tracks microgrid feasibility tools, resilience and microgrid policy, and funding opportunity activity.
